Texas Man Identified as Driver That Caused Fatal I-40 Crash | WMC 5
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified the man who caused Wednesday’s fatal crash on I-40. The crash happened around 4 a.m. Wednesday on I-40 near the Arlington exit. THP says 61-year-old Mervin Crigler of Garland, Texas was driving the tractor that hit and killed two contractors for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. A third contractor and THP Officer LeJulian Roy of Covington were both injured.

A construction blast that somehow went wrong caused part of the roadway to "buckle," according to Wilson County Emergency Management, which called the incident a "blasting mishap." The precise cause of the incident was not immediately clear.  The incident was reported at 6:48 p.m. near Bloodworth Road, affecting all but one northbound lane of traffic, according to Tennessee Department of Transportation maps. Several law enforcement agencies responded to the scene to help direct traffic and clear debris from the area while repairs could be made. Low temperatures Friday evening meant the repaving cooled faster than usual, and all lanes of the route were reopened before 9:30 p.m.

Senator Lamar Alexander said a $12 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation will help Memphians get to work, school and home on time. Memphis will receive a $12 million federal grant to begin construction on the Memphis Innovation Corridor. This funding will allow the City of Memphis and the Memphis Area Transit Authority to begin construction on a 8.25 mile Bus Rapid Transit system from the Hudson Transit Center, through Downtown Memphis to the University of Memphis. The system includes the construction of 28 new, high tech bus stations, and the purchase of nine new electric buses.

The four species known as Asian carp have damaged economies and ecosystems from the mouth of the Mississippi to the gateway of the Great Lakes. Below Barkley Dam in rural Western Kentucky, millions of pounds of the fish have been caught and processed. But above the locks, in the Cumberland River, the fish are not nearly as present. So the dam is considered a pinch point for controlling the spread of Asian carp.
