Finish Line in Sight for State Route 66 Project | Citizen Tribune
After a years-long wait, state Route 66 will soon be open for the public to drive nonstop from Interstate 81 all the way to West Andrew Johnson Highway. “Currently, the expectation is that we would see an opening to four-lane traffic through this section in late October,” said Mark Nagi, spokesman for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Nagi said the contractor is working to complete drainage, concrete curb and island and permanent stabilization items on the remaining 1.6 miles portion of the road. The anticipated opening of the highway comes after years fraught with problems that saw the project delayed repeatedly.
