TRIP: US Has $211B Backlog of Rural Transportation Fixes
The US rural road transportation system faces a $211 billion backlog of necessary upgrades, but states and local governments could lose $50 billion in travel revenue over the next 18 months due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to transportation nonprofit TRIP. Traffic crashes and fatalities on rural non-Interstate roads are disproportionately high, occurring at a rate more than double that on all other roads, the report says.
